GAME TEI Summit for Future Leaders

GAME is an international network of ten partner universities that facilitates educational exchange between students as part of the TEI (Transnational Educational Initiatives) project. GAME was created for healthcare students to broaden their understanding of other fields of work and cultures and to provide an opportunity to gain experience for future roles in patient care. Building a lasting network between the universities and the students and alumni is one of GAME's most important goals. In particular, the mix of medicine, pharmacy, public health and nursing/midwifery created a unique interprofessional exchange.

What is robotics? How can artificial intelligence be used in medical research and teaching? And what opportunities, but also challenges, arise from the use of such technologies?

These and many other questions were addressed by the participants of this year's GAME TEI Future Leaders Summit from 22-24 June 2025 in Prato, Italy, which focused on the topic of "Emerging technologies & medicinal impact on medical education".

The focus was on technological developments for everyday medical work, as well as possible applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. In interprofessional groups, the students discussed the necessary regulations for working with artificial intelligence, particularly with regard to scientific research. Framework conditions were jointly formulated to provide a point of reference for work in the healthcare sector. As part of a practical workshop, the students learnt about the use of virtual reality simulations and technology-supported learning and discussed the potential advantages and disadvantages associated with the various technologies.

The conclusion: ‘Tech is a partner on the ride, not the one who should decide’.

The application of AI and robotics in medicine requires critical thinking, creativity and a sense of responsibility - this forms the basis for an innovative future in the healthcare sector. The numerous cross-thematic discussions with students and experts from all over the world greatly enriched the participating pharmacy students' view of their future working environment - in particular, the comparison of the work of pharmacists in different countries inspired them to help shape an innovative future in interprofessional collaboration.

The 5th GAME-TEI Summer School at the Medical School of Korea University was dedicated to the topic of "Interprofessional Education for Planetary Health". The event took place from July 10 to 14, 2023 in Seoul, South Korea. The Global Alliance of Medical Excellence (GAME) is an international association that currently consists of eight partner universities and their medical faculties. The aim of GAME is to establish cross-disciplinary, long-term and effective cooperation in the areas of research and teaching. The associated Transnational Educational Initiative (TEI) conducts an annual summer school as a student transdisciplinary educational exchange program for health-related fields (medicine, pharmacy and nursing) at the participating universities. The lectures given by experts could be deepened through subsequent practical group work. In international and interprofessional teams, approaches were developed that can contribute to improving sustainability in healthcare facilities in accordance with the guiding principle of "think global, act local". The students were successfully taught that, as future healthcare professionals, they make a significant contribution to protecting and promoting health and that the health of the population is closely linked to the well-being of ecosystems.
